Dental regeneration is an innovative field in modern dentistry that focuses on the healing and restoration of teeth and gums. The materials and techniques used in these procedures are key, as they must meet high standards of safety and compatibility with the human body. Therefore, it is essential that dental practitioners choose certified and well-studied materials that have passed rigorous quality controls, thus guaranteeing optimal and long-lasting treatment results. Adopting a quality-based approach not only improves clinical outcomes but also reinforces patient confidence in the dental services offered.

Healing outcomes of open versus closed flap procedures for collagen membrane coverage following immediate dental implant placements with simultaneously guided tissue regeneration.
Zhou Q, Yang F, Li N, Ren YF, Yu Y. J Dent. 2024 Feb;141:104735.. Epub 2023 Oct 5.
It has been concluded that there are similar results for open healing or primary closure after immediate implant placements. The study compares the outcomes of open healing to complete closure for collagen membrane coverage for immediate implant placements with simultaneously guided bone regeneration (GBR) in two retrospective cohorts: i) Control: primary closure by flap mobilization and ii) Test: no flap mobilization, where Geistlich Bio-Gide® was left exposed and secured by sutures.
After 16 weeks, open healing areas presented regular keratinized mucosa with complete closure for small wounds (≤6mm) and partial to complete closure for greater wounds (≥7mm). Although there were no significant differences in vertical and horizontal bone dimension changes between the groups, patients in the open-healing group reported less pain and swelling.

Geistlich Bio-Gide® should always be used with a bone substitute, such as Citagenix Raptos.
